Walking War Robots - Walking War Robots lets you step into your own machine on your mobile device as you battle it out against other players in MMO style. Offering a wide range of robots for you to take into battle and a steadily growing community Walking War Robots is one of the very few games offering this sort of gameplay.

Matches take place on a variety of maps in 6v6 domination battles where you’ll want to either focus on capturing map points or wiping out the entire enemy team. This keeps each engagement quite short (around 5 minutes on average) which of course is perfectly suited to the mobile environment. These short games also ensure that its quite easy to get rewards with the end of each match giving you in game currency based on your performance and your teams.

On the gameplay front things are fairly solid in Walking War Robots, while it will take some time to master the controls they are well designed and give you enough tools to have some say in the result of combat (such as strafing, turning your head (and weapons) independently from your body or peeking in and out of the terrain). Walking War Robots also utilises a somewhat dynamic damage system that can have your individual body parts being damaged as you reach low health and impacting your play (such as crippling a leg).

Similar to other vehicle based combat video games players will manage their own robots in the hangar. Here you can house multiple robots with different layouts to give each game a different strategy depending on your mood. This could range from a fast robot focused on short ranged combat to slower more durable fighters relying on long ranged missiles instead.

These options are left mostly up to the player who can take the basic robot models (over a dozen) and customise the two weapons attached to their liking and also upgrade them to more powerful variants.

For vehicle combat on a mobile device there isn’t an option that compares to Walking War Robots, it’s not an exceptional experience but definitely enjoyable.

Titanfall - Titanfall is a first person shooter for Windows, Xbox 360 and Xbox One that pushes the genre into a different direction by introducing large mechanical machines into the combat environment. With plenty of variety in the gameplay this 2014 addition to the FPS genre sets a new standard.

In Titanfall players have the option to roam the map on foot or jump into a mechanical fighter known as a Titan. Every Titanfall match pits teams of two players against each other as they battle to complete various team based objectives with various weapons and Titans at their disposal.

The game is all about the fast paced experience and lets players quickly move around the map and even throws in some parkour style features as players run on walls, double jump and gain speed quickly as they sprint forward onto battle. Titans are also very fast and only slightly slower than players outside of the mechanical giants.

Players won’t just be battling other players though and instead be joined on the battlefield by plenty of AI controlled soldiers. This ensures that when you do get to hop into your Titan that you have plenty of enemies to mow down for a satisfying experience but doesn’t leave countless players on the other side becoming frustrated. It’s a balance that means you’ll have less volatility in the online experience and results in a generally more enjoyable offering.

With plenty of abilities to give you a tactical edge in Titanfall players have plenty of room to customise their pilot’s abilities and weapons. Abilities include cloaking, speed boosts and even x-ray vision while weapons are a mostly standard offering with assault rifles, machin guns, sniper rifles and plenty of anti-Titan weapons.

Titans have a similar level of customisation to ensure that all play styles can create something that they feel comfortable with. Titans are split into three classes (light, medium and heavy) which change the level of armour and speed available to each one. The real customisation comes from the Titan’s powers though from the ability to stop enemy bullets midair to blocking all damage with a temporary shield and many others.

Titanfall redefines the first person shooter genre to create an experience that any fan of multiplayer shooters will instantly become hooked on.

With a free price tag, impressive visuals and plenty of gameplay depth War Thunder is a game that is worthy of your hard drive space.

The solo missions, campaign, co-operative scenarios and mission editor round out the PvE side of gameplay in War Thunder and are the perfect places to hone your skills and master the precision necessary to control the war machines of World War II. Armored Warfare - Armored Warfare offers free to play combat within powerful combat vehicles. Drawing plenty of inspiration from the “World of” franchise that dominates the market this experience has solid foundations but also has plenty of innovation up its sleeve.

Choosing to focus on vehicles from all the way back to 1950 but also including modern day behemoths there are plenty of vehicles to take control of. With stunning graphics and destructible environments each tank not only looks great but also feels powerful as you crush environmental elements underneath your tracks.

These vehicle options fall into five broad classes of vehicles which includes main battle tanks, armored fighting vehicles, light tanks, tanky destroyers and artillery. As one would expect each plays a different role on the battlefield and mixing between your favourite vehicles is easy as the battle needs change. Armored Warfare also has some built in customisation that lets you steer your preferred choices to certain enhancements and visual customisations.

Unlocking these options will require a decent amount of gameplay which can be split between the PvE (co-op) and PvP game modes that offer all sorts of different missions, maps and objectives. From desserts to frozen landscapes and city locations Armored Warfare has a decent offering of maps which are likely to continue to grow with time.

While the game definitely feels reminiscent of World of Tanks the differences that Armored Warfare offers make it well worth trying, especially if you’ve avoided the small but growing genre.

Most notably is the step forward to the modern day which not only means more powerful and unique tanks but new technological equipment that alters combat with the likes of thermal sights and signal jammers. With the co-op opportunities also encouraging you and your friends to fight together against strong AI and the great looking graphics Armored Warfare is shaping up to be the hot new tank vehicle experience.

World of Warplanes - Coming off the success of World of Tanks Wargaming moved into the plane industry with their similarly designed MMO, World of Warplanes. It’s got all the features that made their original game so popular but changes up the vehicles that you’ll be piloting.

Planes aim to be a historical and accurate representation of what is used in the real aviation world with planes being based on German, Soviet Union, USA, Great Britain and Japan engineering. Each of these countries comes with their own technology tree for players to advance through that will take you from simple planes to more powerful aircraft. With each country having their own strength you’ll find your strategy having to change up based on your opponent.

The action starts at your hangar in World of Warplanes where players can choose the aircraft they want to take into battle, upgrade them with new parts or customise them with a unique look. Planes fall into three broad categories (fighter, heavy fighter and attack aircraft) which dictate your playstyle and role in a team environment.

For better comparison (and to help ease the learning curve for new players) aircraft stats are broken down into four stats (hit points, fire power, airspeed and manoeuvrability) to make planes easily comparable. Customisation doesn’t stop there though in World of Planes with crew training and skills further allowing you to create a plane that works for you in the heat of battle.

Unlocking all this customisation requires you to step into the 15v15 PvP battles to earn experience and currency to take back to your hangar. Matches are won or lost based on your teams ability to have supremacy over your opponent (destroying key ground targets and enemy aircraft) with the victor getting a nice boost to their rewards for that match.

With upgrades and unlocks becoming available at a steady pace you’ll keep coming back to World of Warplanes be it for long term gaming sessions or quick battles from time to time.

Battlefield 4 - Battlefield 4 continues the Battlefield series with impressive first person shooter gameplay in both the single and multiplayer environments. The game was one of the first titles available for the new generation of consoles (Xbox One and PlayStation 4).

The games story takes a small step into the future and is set in 2020 as tension between the world’s largest nations reaches a new peak. The game is set in the same universe as the previous game with some returning characters and references to previous events. This time around players will tackle the campaign in chronological order through the eyes of Sgt. Daniel Recker who belongs to a Special Forces unit of the United States.

Players familiar with first person games will recognise the usual culprits during gameplay with your HUD displaying your map, health and current ammo status. The map provides all the information you need on your current objective and also shows allies and enemies much like most other games.

Weapon variety is very impressive in the single player campaign and expands to even more options in the multiplayer environment. Some of the more basic vehicles are also used in the campaign although the majority are reserved for online play.

The series continues to focus on a more squad based experience in the multiplayer environment with success coming from a team working together rather than a few star shooters like in the Call of Duty franchise. Class systems, spotting and vehicles continue to be staples of the online gameplay in Battlefield 4 while the commander mode lets you step away from the battle to help direct your team to victory by issuing the orders and supporting them when possible.

Battlefield 4 has plenty of fast paced and tense moments during both the campaign and multiplayer that make it a highly desirable purchase for FPS fans.

PlanetSide 2 - PlanetSide 2 is a free to play shooter that aims to capture the feeling of massive combat engagements. Players will get to control a huge variety of vehicles and classes as they battle it out against hundreds and sometimes thousands of players.

In the game you’ll have to swear allegiance to one of the three factions in the game which are fighting each other for control of continents and resources. Factions include the New Conglomerate, Vanu Sovereignty and the Terrain Republic, each of these factions has their own strengths and weaknesses for players to consider.

The New Conglomerate features hard hitting guns with lower magazine clips with solid vehicles and aircraft. The Terrain Republic prefer fast firing weapons with large magazine sizes and have some of the fastest moving vehicles in the game. Finally the Vanu Sovereignty uses alien lasers which provide high accuracy and low recoil. Considering the strengths of your own faction and the enemy plays a surprisingly large role in the gameplay of PlanetSide 2.

PlanetSide 2 combat takes place across multiple territories which players fight for control over against other players. If players are able to take control over a territory for their faction they’ll unlock small boosts for their faction. These combat sequences can contain thousands of other players and aren’t just limited to soldiers as battles will also involve a wide range of vehicles and aircraft.

Every action in the PlanetSide 2 universe will give the player some in game currency which is then used to customise their classes, weapons and skins. This process can be significantly enhanced through the premium game currency of Station Cash which does provide an advantage to paying players although not directly as all free playing players have the same options.

Battlefield 3 - Battlefield 3 is a FPS produced by Electronic Arts (EA) and pushes the Battlefield series further than ever before. The games focus is similar to previous instalments in the franchise with a focus on large scale multiplayer battles.

Battlefield 3 was released in late 2011 and met with great reviews from critics and fans of the series citing graphics and multiplayer features as the core reasons for high scores. In Battlefield 3 players will experience a vast single player campaign with options to tackle missions in a co-operative manner or take to the multiplayer game mode. The PC version of Battlefield 3 supports battles for up to 64 players while the console versions offer slightly lower player caps and map restrictions to accommodate the change.

Multiplayer features a wide variety of real world locations for players to battle over including New York, Paris, Kuwait and many others. As you would expect from a Battlefield game the maps include a great mixture of urban areas, metropolitan areas and open landscapes which encourage vehicle based battles.

Just like other games in the Battlefield series the class system is a staple component of gameplay. In Multiplayer players choose from one of the four roles available in the game (Engineer, Recon, Support and Assault).

Each of these class options has their own role to play and has different equipment to help them achieve that goal. Battlefield also offers multiple game modes, text chat, voice chat, statistics and the ability to easily join games with friends making it a great multiplayer experience.

If you are looking for your next big FPS game that offers a well-rounded single player campaign and is packed full of multiplayer features then Battlefield 3 has everything that you are looking for.
